In a shocking escalation of the internal crisis rocking Nigeria’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP), tension boiled over at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. Security operatives reportedly prevented Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State from gaining access to the PDP headquarters, sparking bitter confrontation between their teams and the police
The PDP has been deeply divided, with rival factions jostling for control. On one side is the group aligned with the newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, following a controversial convention in Ibadan.
On the other side, there are those loyal to Samuel Anyanwu, whose expulsion has become a focal point of the party’s infighting.
Governors Bala Mohammed and Makinde, both heavyweights in the PDP, have thrust themselves into this maelstrom. Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, has publicly affirmed his loyalty to the party despite all the chaos.
Their attempt to access the party’s secretariat appears to be more than just a symbolic gesture — it’s a power play.
Eyewitnesses say that as the two governors approached the Wadata Plaza secretariat, they were met by a heavy security presence — including police and operatives believed to be aligned with rival PDP factions.
According to reports, there was a fierce exchange: policemen tried to block the entrance, and in response, supporters of the governors threatened to force the gate open.
A dramatic video circulating online shows Governor Bala Mohammed leading his supporters to breach the gate, while some law enforcement officers were pushed back.
The Source even reports that Samuel Anyanwu, expelled from one faction, was chased away by angry supporters.
