PRP condemns PDP factional Chairman Turaki’s call for foreign intervention over party’s internal affairs

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has condemned in strong terms the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), over his recent call to the US President Donald Trump and the international community to intervene in the party’s internal crisis.

Turaki had on Tuesday while addressing the press after securing entry into the PDP headquarters in Abuja, following a prolonged confrontation between supporters of rival factions, appealed for help from abroad.

While addressing the press, Turaki had asked Trump and the international community to save Nigeria’s democracy from collapse.

“I want to call on President Trump; what is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians. He should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat. I’m calling on all other developed nations: come and save Nigeria, come and save democracy.

But while reacting to Turaki’s comments, the PRP, in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Falalu Bello, faulted the invitation, which he described as unpatriotic.

In the statement, Bello said:

“The PRP unequivocally condemns the reckless and dangerous remarks made by the Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), in his recent call for foreign intervention, specifically urging President Donald Trump and other advanced democracies to “come and save Nigeria” from its internal crises.

“Such a statement is not only unpatriotic but also exposes an alarming inferiority complex that continues to plague some of our so-called politicians and political leaders. It reflects a troubling failure to have confidence in Nigeria’s inherent resilience, democratic institutions, no matter the general perception about them, and the collective strength of its people.

“It is an insult to Nigeria’s sovereignty, independence, and dignity – values that countless patriots have fought to uphold.

“Nigeria is a sovereign nation and founded as a republic – with defined territories, independent government and free from any external interference. Our challenges must be solved through internal dialogue, robust democratic processes, and patriotic leadership – not through external forces and foreign powers that may seek to manipulate our internal affairs for their own interests.

“The PRP reminds Turaki and his ilk that Nigeria does not need the interference of imperialist states to resolve its crises; it needs genuine patriotism, unity, internally driven solutions and of course, genuine partners that will not take advantage of the nation.

“The 5th Principle of PRP advocates for total liberation from imperialism, a principle rooted in the dignity and sovereignty of our nation. This principle underscores our belief that true independence is achieved when Nigeria’s destiny is determined by Nigerians themselves, not by foreign governments or their agents.

“We call on Tanimu Turaki and the PDP to immediately withdraw this incendiary and misguided statement. We also urge all Nigerian leaders to uphold the dignity of our nation and to resist any temptation to undermine our sovereignty through appeals to foreign powers.

“Nigeria’s strength lies in its people, its institutions, and its unwavering resolve to build a just and united nation. Any attempt to undermine this sovereignty in the name of “saving democracy” is a betrayal of our national dignity and a setback to our collective progress. Let it be clear: Nigeria’s destiny is in the hands of its resilient people, and we refuse to allow foreign interference to dictate our future.’
