‘We also came close’ – Atalanta new manager disappointed with chances missed by Lookman and others

Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino expressed his frustration over his team’s squandered chances in Napoli’s defeat.

La Dea suffered a 3-1 loss to Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Saturday night.

It was Palladino’s first game in charge of Atalanta after replacing Ivan Juric following his sacking last week.

The coach emphasised that his forwards, including Ademola Lookman, needed to be more clinical in front of goal.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sport, Palladino acknowledged the positive contributions from his substitutes, singling out Gianluca Scamacca, who scored Atalanta’s only goal.

“Gianluca came on with the right spirit,” Palladino noted, as reported by Tuttoatalanta. “I also liked the other substitutes; they all brought courage and quality.”

However, the Italian manager was clear about his disappointment with his attacking line’s profligacy.

“I have a strong forward lineup: Scamacca scored today, but we also came close with De Ketelaere, Lookman, and Samardzic,” he stated. “I expect a lot from them. They’ve done a great job, and there’s a lot to build on.”

Lookman, who has had a challenging start to the season, played for 82 minutes before being replaced by Daniel Maldini as Atalanta sought a late equaliser.

As Atalanta grapples with an inconsistent start to their campaign, Lookman will be under pressure to regain his form and help ignite a turnaround under the new manager.
