Why we lost 1-0 to Everton at Old Trafford — Man Utd boss Amorim opens up

Manchester United’s longest unbeaten run under new boss Ruben Amorim came to an end after a disappointing defeat to Everton at Old Trafford.

Manchester United looked to have turned a corner after going 5 games unbeaten, the longest of Ruben Amorim’s tenure, but Everton’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford has soured the mood.

The defeat was made even worse by the fact that Everton played for more than an hour with 10 men, and United failed to capitalise.

The home side can point to the injury absences of forwards Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, but they played 77 minutes in total with 11 men to Everton’s 10 and could not score once.

Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee came closest, but the Red Devils only mustered six shots on target despite having an extra man on the pitch.

Speaking after the game, a clearly disappointed Amorim shared his thoughts.

“Everton were the better team with 11 players or 10. I felt since the first minute that we were not there with the same intensity, so they deserved the win.

“The way we faced the game. The other team helped us with a sending off. What we do in every single moment of the game, if they have 10 — let’s push the opponent to the final third, to be near any transition, really to be focused on the game.

The United boss also admitted this defeat felt like a step backwards.

“Yes, especially in the way we played the game. Forget about the results. The result is also really bad, but I’m more concerned with the feeling I had during the game.”
