‘Best moment in my career’ — Estevao speaks after silencing Yamal, equaling Mbappe and Haaland record

I tried for 5 years — Estevao’s agent reveals how he begged Barcelona to sign Chelsea star

Estevao’s agent said that his client still reserved a special place in his heart for Barcelona.

Estevao’s agent, Andre Cury, recently revealed that his client still had strong feelings for Barcelona while narrating how hard he worked to get the Blaugrana to sign him.

The Brazil international is emerging as one of the best players in world football, and alongside Yamal, sits on the summit of talented teenagers in the sport.

During the Champions League clash between Barcelona and Chelsea, the former Palmeiras man outshone Yamal, scoring a brilliant goal and keeping the Blaugrana defence honest.

Given his incredible performance against the LALIGA champions, the stories of his love for Barcelona resurfaced. Spanish publication Sport appeared to track down his agent, Cury, amid the post-match reactions, and the Brazilian talent connoisseur shared some insights.

What Cury said

Chelsea signed Estevao from Palmeiras for a reported £56 million, beating other top European clubs in the race for the prodigious talent.

Barcelona seemed to be leading the race for much of the youngster’s youth career, as the player made it clear Catalonia was his dream destination. Cury, his agent, who was at one point on the books of Barcelona, recently revealed that he tried year after year to get the Catalan giants to make the commitment.

When the time eventually came for Estevao to make the European move, however, he explained that their finances did not permit them to make the deal.

“In 2018, I started preparing reports on Estevao. In 2019, I took Abidal to Brazil to see him play. Even at 11 years old, it was clear he would be something special. We spoke with Barca about Estevao in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, after I left the club,’ he said.

“We offered the player because we believed he had a very bright future, but Barca’s finances weren’t in good shape. The technical staff always approved the signing, but Deco, with whom we met more than once, is very close to the club because their financial situation didn’t allow them to complete this operation.”

“He now has a contract and is enjoying himself at Chelsea,” but “has a special place in his heart for Barca.”
