Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has joked about breaking an unwanted Barcelona record after joining the club in 2025
Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has opened up about holding one of the club’s strangest records, the highest body fat percentage ever recorded by a Barça player.
But in classic Szczesny fashion, the 35-year-old insists that while he loves food, it has never affected the sharpness or longevity of his career.
Szczesny admits to ‘excessive fat’ record but insists it never slowed him down
Speaking in an interview with GQ Poland, Szczesny revealed he once crossed Barcelona’s allowable body fat threshold, earning himself an unwanted record.
“I like to eat, and even though I manage to stay within the limits, I still broke Barcelona’s record when it comes to fat, excessive fat,” he said.

Despite that, he stressed this has never had any impact on his performances, pointing to his long-standing career at the highest level.
The Polish international, who came out of retirement last year to help Barça win LaLiga, has always embraced his imperfections publicly, from discussing his occasional smoking to now joking about his physique.
Lewandowski teases Szczesny over unusual physique
Szczesny also recalled a light-hearted moment with compatriot Robert Lewandowski during a Poland camp.
According to Szczesny, as he stood in the dressing room in just his underwear, Lewandowski jokingly asked, “How could Szczesny have made such a career with that body?”

Before the goalkeeper could respond, former national team coach Czeslaw Michniewicz stepped in with a witty explanation. “You see, Lewy, standing in goal is like chess. You play with your hands, but you really play with your head.”
That line has since become Szczesny’s go-to comeback whenever anyone tells him to hit the gym. “‘Listen, it’s like chess,’” he now replies with a grin.
With 84 caps for Poland and a trophy-filled club career, Szczesny’s story proves that mental sharpness, not six-pack abs, is what truly keeps a goalkeeper at the top.
