Wedding Trip Ends in Tragedy as Seven Die in Gombe Highway Crash



Seven residents of Lawanti village in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State have lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway while travelling to attend a wedding ceremony.
The victims were reportedly heading to Maiduguri, Borno State, when the crash occurred on Saturday, December 27. Those who died in the accident were identified as Gambo Abbo (35), Umalkhairi (18), Rabiu Abubakar (28), Fatuma Hassan (28), Amal Abubakar (3), Adamu Bello (4) and Zara’u Alhaji (27).

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a heartbreaking and devastating loss not only to the affected families but also to the Lawanti community and the state at large.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor said the tragic deaths had left residents in mourning, adding that no words could adequately comfort families who lost loved ones in such painful circumstances.

Governor Yahaya extended his condolences to the bereaved families, including the District Head of Jalingo, Bello Hassan Babangida, who lost his sister and niece; Idris Lawanti Maigari, who lost his daughter; and the Akko Ward councillor, Idris A. Isah Lawanti, who also suffered the loss of close relatives.

He offered prayers for divine strength and patience for the grieving families and the entire Lawanti community, while asking Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward their good deeds and grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
