BREAKING! Police Suspend Nationwide Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit Following Court Order

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a nationwide suspension of the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, citing compliance with an interim court order.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, confirming that the enforcement earlier slated to commence on January 2, 2026, has been put on hold.

According to Hundeyin, the decision followed an interim injunction issued by a court on December 17, 2025, which restrained the police from implementing the policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or until the order is vacated.

He explained that the Police Force, in line with its constitutional responsibility and respect for judicial authority, has entered an appearance in the case, filed preliminary objections, and applied for the interim order to be set aside. The matter has since been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

“Consequently, and in strict adherence to the subsisting court order, the Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide pending the court’s decision,” Hundeyin stated.

He added that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law while carrying out its core mandate of safeguarding lives and property across the country.

Hundeyin assured Nigerians that the Police Force would continue to rely on lawful and intelligence-driven approaches to address security concerns and maintain public safety. He also noted that the public would be duly informed of any further developments and provided with clear directives after the court reaches a final decision, in the interest of public order and national security.
