A high-stakes legal battle has ignited in the South-West political circle as Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, aka Fryo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Osun State, issued a blistering legal threat against former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The confrontation follows a controversial appearance by Fayose on TVC’s program, ‘Politics Tonight,’ where he allegedly branded the PDP flag bearer a “criminal” and linked him to one of the most notorious political assassinations in Nigerian history.
During the live interview, Fayose reportedly attacked the credibility of the Osun PDP candidate, referencing the 2001 murder of the former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.
According to the formal demand letter authored by Adedamola’s solicitors—Un Ayemoyin Esq., Adetunji Apara Esq., and Adaramola Olamide Esq.—Fayose stated:
“…In Osun recently, somebody who did not obtain form of PDP became the candidate, person that was alleged to kill Bola Ige at that time.”
‘False and Baseless’
The legal team for Adedamola, who was famously known in political circles as “Fryo” during the early 2000s, reacted with fury, describing the former governor’s utterances as “false, baseless, and legally unfounded.”

The solicitors argued that Fayose’s comments were a malicious attempt to resurrect a settled legal matter to derail Adedamola’s gubernatorial ambitions. They reminded the public that their client had been fully exonerated by the judiciary decades ago.
“Our Client was tried in a competent court of Law and was discharged and acquitted of the allegation,” the letter stated. “By virtue of his acquittal, he must not be referred to as a CRIMINAL. Former governor Ayodele Fayose has crossed all his limits by libelously referring to our client as ‘the person who was alleged to kill Bola Ige.’”
The letter further asserts that the “criminal” tag is not just an insult to Adedamola’s person but a calculated strike against his status as the “Gubernatorial Candidate of People Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State” and his reputation as an upright citizen.
As the race for the Osun State Government House heats up, Adedamola’s camp is making it clear that they will not tolerate “character assassination” disguised as political commentary.
The PDP candidate has handed Fayose a strict seven-day ultimatum to clear his name. The legal demand includes three non-negotiable conditions:
– A Full Retraction of the libelous statements made on TVC.
– A Public Apology published in three major national newspapers.
– The Immediate Removal of the original interview content from all digital and broadcast platforms.
The solicitors concluded the demand with a sharp warning to the former Ekiti strongman: “Failure to comply with these conditions stated above, we shall be left with no other option other than approaching a court of law for a legal redress. A word is enough for the wise.”
As of New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026, the Fayose camp has yet to issue a formal rebuttal or apology. With the clock ticking, observers are watching closely to see if the “Lion of Afao” will retreat or if this will escalate into a landmark defamation trial that could rock the Osun 2026 election cycle.
