Nigerian cleric and televangelist, Pastor Chris Okafor, has issued a public apology to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala and members of his church following a wave of controversies linked to allegations against him.
The apology was delivered during a church service, where Okafor addressed his congregation and acknowledged that mistakes had been made. While maintaining that several of the accusations levelled against him were untrue, the pastor said he was prepared to make peace and offer restitution to anyone he may have offended.
In his remarks, Okafor stressed that he was not interested in trading accusations, but rather in starting afresh. He specifically mentioned Doris Ogala, extending an apology to her and others affected by the situation.
“Errors have happened in the past, and I sincerely apologise to everyone. Not everything that was said about me is true, as there were many falsehoods. However, to Doris Ogala and anyone I have offended in any way, I am ready to apologise and make restitution,”
he said.
In an emotional moment, the cleric went on his knees before the congregation, pleading for forgiveness and asking members to pray for him.
“I kneel before you and before the church. Forgive me. Judge me if you must, but please pray for me,”
he added.
The public apology has since drawn reactions from both church members and observers, as many await further developments in the ongoing controversy.
