‘I am very happy with Joe’ – Southampton manager hails Aribo attitude despite limited playing time

Southampton’s interim manager, Tonda Eckert, has lauded midfielder Joe Aribo for his exemplary attitude and commitment.

The Super Eagles star has found his playing time reduced significantly in his on-field role this season.

Aribo, who joined the Saints from Rangers, has found first-team opportunities scarce, having been frequently left out of matchday squads under former manager Will Still.

The Nigerian international has only featured in five league matches, playing a total of just 98 minutes since the season kicked off in August.

Eckert praises Aribo

Despite his lack of playing time, Eckert revealed he has been impressed by Aribo’s physical condition and positive mindset since taking temporary charge.

Speaking to the Daily Echo following a 3-2 defeat to Millwall on Saturday, Eckert praised the midfielder’s impact from the bench.

“I am very happy with Joe,” he stated. “He has been excellent every time he has come on, and he is in very good shape.”

The 29-year-old was a more prominent figure for Southampton last season, making 32 appearances and scoring three goals during their Premier League campaign, which ultimately ended in relegation.

Aribo will now be hoping his strong performances and professional conduct can earn him a regular spot in the starting lineup as he aims to help the Saints push for an immediate return to the top flight.
