10-man Barcelona lose at home to Atletico as PSG beat Liverpool in UCL

Barcelona will have to put up a big fight when they face Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie after falling 2-0 at home in the first leg on Wednesday night.

It was a frustrating night for the hosts at the Camp Nou as they were reduced to 10 men just before the break with Pau Cubarsí being sent off.

Julian Alvarez then subsequently scored from the resultant free-kick to put the visitors ahead.

Marcus Rashford did hit the woodwork in the second half, but it was Alexander Sorloth who scored for Atleti, sweeping in a second for his side to stay in control of the tie.

Recall that Barcelona had beaten Atletico 2-1 in the La Liga last weekend, hence a 2-0 win for Atletico is a huge step as they prepare for the second leg of the Champions League tie at home.

In Paris, defending champions Paris Saint Germain also defeated Liverpool 2-0 to stay in command ahead of the second leg of their quarter-final clash.

Desire Doue’s deflected finish gave PSG the lead, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added the second with a brilliant individual goal in the second half.

Liverpool failed to register an attempt on target.

The second leg of the ties will take place on Tuesday.
