The Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force has invited human rights activist, Israel Joe, for interrogation, citing allegations bordering on a case of a missing person, cyberbullying, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
In a letter dated April 8, 2026, and referenced CR: 3000/FID/FHQ/ABJ/GEN DVU/VOL DVU/VO2/469 21469, the police said Joe’s “name featured prominently” in an ongoing investigation.
The letter directed the activist to appear before the Deputy Inspector General of Police, FID, through the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gender), at the Force Intelligence Department, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.
“You are kindly requested to report for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, FID, through the Deputy Commissioner of Police (GENDER), at Room 213, 2nd Floor, Force Intelligence Department, opposite Force Headquarters, Area 11, Garki, Abuja on 10th April, 2026 by 10am,” the letter read in part.
It added that further enquiries could be directed to a listed phone number.
The invitation was signed by DCP Zainab A. Pembi on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja.
However, Joe, in a public reaction, alleged that the invitation was connected to his ongoing confrontation with senior police officers over an alleged controversial raid in Delta State.
“Above is a letter I received from the department of Force CID, Abuja inviting me over the issue of the raid of DCP Adejobi,” he said.

The development comes amid an escalating war of words between the activist and police authorities following his earlier allegations against Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State Command, Muyiwa Adejobi.
Joe had accused the police of carrying out what he described as a “lawless raid” involving arrests, vehicle seizures, and alleged extortion in Delta State.
In a previous statement, the activist had challenged Adejobi to personally appear in court and face cross-examination rather than relying on legal threats.
Joe said he received a letter from the police officer’s lawyer dated April 2, 2026, demanding that he retract his allegations or face a lawsuit.
“I received the letter from your lawyer threatening a court suit, dated the 2nd of April, 2026, if I refused to retract on the lawless raid you did with your men and if I also refused to apologise. Are you serious?” he said.
He insisted he would not back down.
“Israel Joe will never retract or apologise — not to you nor to any of those who joined you in that lawless raid,” he declared.
Joe further alleged that about 270 persons were arrested during the operation, vehicles were impounded, and a restaurant was raided with customers arrested.
He also accused officers of extorting N400,000 from a restaurant owner during the alleged operation.
“In the raid that lasted two days, you impounded several vehicles, arrested about 270 persons, raided someone’s restaurant, arresting his customers, which was captured by CCTV,” he alleged.
The activist also questioned the legality of the arrests, asking why those detained had not been charged to court if they were truly criminals.
“If all those you claimed to have arrested are drug barons, how many of them did you charge to court?” he asked.
Joe maintained that he was prepared for any legal consequences, insisting that he would not be intimidated.
“You will also personally appear in the dock and be cross-examined when the legal battle begins,” he said, directing his remarks at the police officer.
He also criticised the jurisdiction of any potential legal action, arguing that filing such a case in Osun State amounted to “forum shopping.”
“Osun State lacks jurisdiction for such a matter and it amounts to forum shopping. They should bring it on over here—we mount,” he said.
Joe further alleged that police actions in Delta State were part of a broader pattern of abuse, linking it to a recent incident in which a young man reportedly died after being chased into a river by officers in Ubeji.
“Another young man was pursued into the river and killed a few days ago in Ubeji by police because they saw your actions as justifying their operations,” he alleged.
He also claimed the controversial raid disrupted previously improved security conditions and nightlife in parts of Warri, Uvwie, and Ughelli.
“Before your arrival, the Delta State Government, the Delta State Command and other security operatives… had done a lot to keep everywhere calm,” he said.
Joe said he had exhausted the seven-day ultimatum earlier issued and was ready for any further action from authorities.
“I have exhausted the 7 days’ notice and hereby enjoin you to come up with the legal battle, arrest or anything. I am on the ground already, only speaking for the masses,” he said.
