Osun APC vows to defeat sitting governor in upcoming poll

The Director General of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council for the August 15 Osun governorship poll, Oluwole Oke, has said the current governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke, will not be re-elected in the coming poll.

Oke, while speaking at the inauguration of the APC campaign committees in Osogbo on Wednesday, said before 10 p.m. on election day, Adeleke would have been defeated.

He said the party would explore gaps created by what he described as lack of judicious use of resources by the current administration to push for the emergence of the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, charging members of the different committees in the campaign council to work hard and deliver on their mandate.

“The truth remains that the government has failed the people of Osun State on all fronts. In the area of administration, they have displayed incompetence, they have not been fair to the Osun people. The resources that have accrued to the state in the last three and a half years have been plundered and misused.

“We don’t have school buildings, we don’t have teachers, our children are no longer going to public schools, and these are the schools that we all attended. We have no equipped hospital that citizens of Osun State can go to. Our agricultural sector has failed.

“You can’t just say because you are paying civil servants, you achieve an act of governance. There are laws that when you employ a worker, it is certain, it is obvious that they have to be paid. Labourers deserve their wages it’s not a big deal, it’s not a new thing,” Oke said.

Predicting victory for the APC at the poll, Oke said his party would address all the issues already identified in the Adeleke administration, assuring all that an Oyebamiji-led government would prioritise “the welfare of the citizens and banish poverty in the state.”

“With that, I don’t have fear in my mind that we will win this election, and don’t forget, I have always said this, we are experts in removing a sitting governor. We will remove Adeleke before 10 p.m. on August 15, 2026. Our candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, will emerge,” he added.

Reacting, the Deputy Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Oladele Bamiji, dismissed Oke’s claims, insisting that Adeleke would secure re-election.

“Wole Oke should stop manufacturing lies to please his party members. Schools in Osun under the Adeleke administration are in good state. Hospitals are functioning well and meeting expectations. All other sectors are also receiving government attention and the people of Osun are grateful to their governor.

“We won’t wait till 10 p.m. on election day. By 12 p.m., the people of Osun would have voted in Governor Adeleke for another term and shame those hell-bent on truncating good governance,” he said.

PUNCH Online reports that voters in Osun will go to the polls on August 15 to elect a governor.

The incumbent, Adeleke, is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, while Oyebamiji is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Another major contender is former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam, who is running on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
